~The Radiology department at Baptist Health would like to educate responders on the dangers of having metallic equipment like axes, Halligan tools, firearms, handcuffs, stretchers, oxygen tanks, radios, or even metal buckles around strong magnets. In the event of an emergency in an MRI room, the magnetic fields could still be present and fully operational, which could prove catastrophic or even lethal to responders or others in the room.

Attached is a rather lengthly guidance document on MRI safety, but please direct your attention to page 508, section N, "Firefighter, police and security safety considerations".  (MRI SAFETY DOC.)

We request that your agencies consider including the following Youtube video into your training curriculum to raise awareness among your personnel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faUBXrJ9PGk

If you have any questions or input, please do not hesitate to contact us. Melody Etherton (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) is our Radiology Quality Assurance Officer and can answer any technical questions you might have.
